I’m thinking of buying an R reg Escort 2nd hand, and I’d like it if I could get 3 years out of it with as little trouble as possible. Its done 100K+, and the asking price is just over £1000. Does this seem like a good investment?

The asking price is just that, what they’ve asked in turn, ask well below the asking price and you should get it below £1000.
The only thing about Escort’s is that they seem to pick up a lot of dust on the arches of the wheel’s.

No, there are no places to fix cars for free. And how do you have a 1969 challenger? The challenger was only produced for model years 1970 – 1974 are you sure you don’t have a charger???

Insurance companies don’t sell totaled cars to individuals they just send them to an auction that only dealers can bid on
I mean all together. I know most say that cars vary too much to get an absolute answer, but even an average specific to a model would be fine. Or just what was your experience when shopping for a used car in the early 80s.
I am almost 43 now. Graduated from high school in 1984. Got a car junior or senior year. Used Buick Skylark. Very family car, very not cool. Great car. It was $3500 back then. I think it was 4 years old when I bought it. LOVED that car because it was my first and I had to pay for it on my own. My payments were $97.33 per month.
