Fast & Furious 4: The Cars and Trucks

FAST & FURIOUS COVERAGE @ INSIDELINE.COM:

Opens Friday, April 3!!!

In the movie business, cars are expendable. They’re not respected, nowhere near cherished, subject to abuse and constantly thrashed. It doesn’t matter if the cars are Ferraris or Ford Crown Vics, the job of any vehicle in a movie is to tell the story effectively — even if it must be destroyed in order to do so. And in a movie like Fast & Furious (opening April 3) the cars do a lot of storytelling. We should know; we went behind the scenes.

In October of 2007, Dennis McCarthy was hired as the picture car coordinator for Fast & Furious, and after leasing a 60,000-square-foot shop in Southern California’s San Fernando Valley and hiring a staff of mechanics and fabricators, he got started building the 240 or so cars that would be needed for the production — to portray about a dozen on-screen cars tied to a character. After all, duplicates were needed of every car to ensure the production never had to slow down; to perform specific stunts; and to be wrecked in the most spectacular way possible.

Using documentation from the production’s picture car department and in-person interviews with McCarthy and his hard-working team of fabricators, Inside Line has created the most comprehensive guide to this year’s hottest movie cars. Here it is: Inside Line’s guide to the cars and trucks of Fast & Furious.

    For your …
For your information here in Europe the “fault” has been tested by many countries and we find it to be a minor technicality. Only USA finds it suitable to go on with huge recalls and even court cases where they will surely sue for trillions. The fact is. Toyota STILL does better than any american company even with these issues. What is pathetic is how americans are sooo eager to bash the japs over this. Its not like the cars are being recalled back to Japan to be scrapped.

  2. Janusha says:

    Except people didnt …
Except people didnt really get a Dodge, Ford or GM did they…

You can blame the unions, pensions, greedy dealerships all you like but the fact is.. If they had made quality cars, they wouldnt have died.

I find it weird that americans are able to defend a business that so far cost the american tax payers 100 billions in funding and hundreds of thousands of jobs.

  3. mattbmx1234 says:

    actually.. the …
actually.. the record drift holder is a man who dorve a69 camaro you moron… and drifting doesnt @ all take skill…. stated by the man who set the record himself.. and also stated that he smoked japs at their own game with a 69 camaro… awesome… and the record 1/4 mile time was alos set by another 69 camaro with a 4.3 sec 1/4

  4. mattbmx1234 says:

    not @ all pathertic …
not @ all pathertic… toyota stated that they were aware of the problems longe before and they were waiting to see how bad the storm gets…now that’s pathetic so America can on toyota all it wants… cause thats where goes .. and comes from

  5. Janusha says:

    Oh could it be …
Oh could it be because the entire american media at the moment is throwing themselves all over Toyota because of their recalls. Like vultures they are trying their best to claw back some desperately needed market shares. Telling people they will surely die if they chose japanese and promising thosuands of dollars to those that will denounce the false Japanese prophet and return to the church of american steel. Americans cant be more happy than seeing someone else in trouble. Thats pathetic.

  6. Janusha says:

    MY opinion? Did MY …
MY opinion? Did MY opinion leave american car companies in ruins? In Europe we dont care where the cars come from. Japanese, german, american.. If a car is good, we will buy it. However due to a pathological aversion towards smaller, efficent cars, america has fallen way behind. They became the Harley Davidsons of the car world. Low tech, backwards and proud of it. We werent forcefed the american dream, our parents didnt work at the factories so Its easier for us to say its crap when its crap.

  7. Janusha says:

    I wasnt talking …
I wasnt talking about your cars was I. We also own a 64 Mopar. Its got exactly the same performance figures as a modern day Viper. Exactly the same quarter mile time and everything. So I know nothing has moved forwards since the 60s. Got nothing to do with speed and more to do with a pathological aversion towards quality and modern tech.

  8. ConkerPucci13 says:

    one more thing for …
one more thing for all you talking about the veyron yeah maybe it’s got the “power” but how many do you see on the road in any country for that matter? well i dont know about the rest of the world but here it’s because we can’t afford the car and frankly i think most of us don’t give a about it

  9. ConkerPucci13 says:

    they aren’t the …
they aren’t the fastest cars in the world but they get us back and forth on a daily basic and why? because when you want the Job done right you get a Dodge, Ford or GM

  10. ConkerPucci13 says:

    couching up …
couching up for decades? yeah thats why my family has 4 Mopars all with over 140,000 miles and NONE of them have ever had a major problem got a 96 Cherokee, a 98 Caravan with almost 170,000 miles on it and a 98 Dakota also a 00 Grand Cherokee i don’t hate on any auto company except for Toyota for good reason. the vehicles are only as good as the owners that drive them. if you drive like a moron of course it’s gonna be shit

  11. ConkerPucci13 says:

    drifting is gay, …
drifting is gay, i’d rather have speed than a car that drives sideways besides if i wanted to “drift” i would just drive in the blinding snow when the road is covered in pure ice this jap they look and perform like shit

  12. fonluv4ever says:

    i drive RABBIT why …
i drive RABBIT why wasn’t one used in the movie its great on gas.

  13. leantastic1989 says:

AND also u American Guys can use Ur FAT METAL SCRAP for 10 sec races only. not for drifting. Drifting is the best race i’ve ever seen. bec. U DONT NEED POWER. U Need SKILLS FAGGOTS. ^_^ -Im a PROUD ASIAN BY THE WAY.

  14. leantastic1989 says:

    Asian cars RULE!!! …
Asian cars RULE!!! american cars are just made for POWER. use it in Drifting and U’ll see how it sucks. The one in f&f tokyo drift just won to beautify the ending but the most creative race which is drifting started in Asia Japan on which they used JAP CARS!!! ^_^

  15. dermotthehara says:

    fuk u!!!!!

  16. xoTiffanyyy11 says:

    “JAP SCRAP” Has a …
“JAP SCRAP” Has a good ring to it, doesn’t it.

  17. blork5 says:

And you ran out of …
And you ran out of arguments. ;-)

  18. mattbmx1234 says:

    you’re an ignorant …
you’re an ignorant moron.. end of story….

  19. kikiCar88 says:

    they destroyed so …
they destroyed so much great cars….wouldnt they give one to me raather…

  20. blork5 says:

    GM went bankrupt …
GM went bankrupt because of record sales. ;-)
    End of story.

  21. mattbmx1234 says:

    fact my ass… the …
fact my ass… the most sought after car in the WORLD is the Vette.. not bmw.. not benz.. but a vette..and American cars are sold overseas you moron..

your ignorance rules you and the real fact is that .. like i stated before.. there are a record number of people trading in their jap garbage for American and that’s because we do it better… otherwise this would not be happening @ the rate that it is…i’m done wasting time with you….you can go drowned in you ignoranceall you want

  22. blork5 says:

    Yeah but even with …
Yeah but even with those purpose built Vipers and Corvette’s the stock European cars (Gumpert, Donkervoort, Radical) beat the Americans hands down.

  23. Janusha says:

    Im saying the …
Im saying the Nurburgring isnt an international benchmark because its 10 times longer than any normal race track and lap times may vary by 20 seconds from lap to lap. The americans with their Cadillac, Viper and Corvette showed up with purpose built vehicles and full factory teams to set records because they were all going bankrupt and desperately needed some hype and to show how they could “beat them overpriced europeans” at their own game. Its a TEST track. Not a race track.

  24. blork5 says:

    Simple fact:

    Simple fact:

Japanese cars are exported throughout the entire world and are big sellers everywhere.

The same for European cars. Mercedes is one of the most common cars in Africa next to Toyota.

American cars only sell in America because they are worthless junk.

  25. blork5 says:

    Most car …
Most car manufacturers test their new vehicles on the Nürburgring.
Therefore the most data is available for the Nürburgring.
But if you like I can use the Le Mans race track.
