How much are used cars when buying from car dealers?

Posted on May 1st, 2010 by admin

What I mean is, how much do cars actually cost with tax, etc. For example, say the used car you want to buy is $6,000. How much do you actually end up paying?

Whats your state sales tax ?
Add insurance, registration and inspection to the price and extended warranty if you buy it and off you go.

If your sales tax is say 5% add $50 per thousand to the price of the car. 6% $60.00 and so on.
Insurance will vary with type of coverage, driving records etc, inspection in NY is $45 and 2 year registration (plates) can be $200.00. Your state will vary.

The sales tax you pay once, of course, the DMV fees come back according to regular schedule.

Why are used cars so expensive in the south?

Posted on April 29th, 2010 by admin

I recently moved from Connecticut to South Carolina, and I was noticing how sued cars are so expensive down here. I have looked on ebay and craigs list, and im noticing people trying to sell cars with 250,000 miles for 2,000, even a Saturn with 335k for $1500. Is there any reason why used cars are so expensive down here? Any car (esp American cars) with 200k on them up north would always be a few hundred bucks, yet down here, they are four figures.

Two factors to look at. First is most southern vehicles have seen li’l or no salt, so it is a safe bet that there is no (well less) hidden under body rust.

The other thing is people are trying to make a profit on vehicles they have driven into the ground these days. I look at vehicles from all over the country on a regular basis. I do not see that much difference in price between vehicles in the same condition. I actually believe the internet sales market has served to drive up the prices. People look at places like auto trader to see what cars like theirs are "selling for" and then list theirs at the same prices as ones that have 2/3 the mileage.

on the other hand, I bought my first car in Alabama for 1500. It was 6 years old with somewhere around 50-60k on it. Over a decade later my cousin bought the same model of car for around 1000 in Wisconsin with close to 100k on it.

If you think the price gouging in the car market is getting bad, you should look at motorcycle prices. people are constantly selling 7-10 year old bikes that they have put 60k on and trying to get nearly the same price as a new bike.

How do people usually pay for used cars when not taking out a loan (cash, check, something else)?

Posted on April 25th, 2010 by admin

Let’s say a person is buying a mid-level used car for $8,000 or so. How would that generally be paid for when a loan isn’t involved? Do people actually withdraw that much in cash from their bank and physically hand over $100 bills? Or, is it common to let cars go with only a personal check in hand? Or is there some other financial instrument usually involved?

Cash, check or credit card.

Is it possible to import used cars to Brazil?

Posted on April 23rd, 2010 by admin

I have an interest in starting a transaction to import used cars to Brazil and need to find out how and what the taxes are. Also, if not feasible, I may be interested in importing new cars as well. any serious information on this will be truly appreciated.

The laws in Brazil allow you to import a car from the United States, so long as it is not for business. You may not show or reveal any trade practices, and you may not import used cars. Only new.

There are 3 steps when importing your new car from U.S. to Brazil.

First, you must get your license to use the car in Brazil through the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama).

Second, you must obtain your Certificate of Suitability through the National Traffic Department (Denatran).

Third, you will register the car through the Department of Foreign Trade (Secex).

Get by the first two steps (Ibama and Denatran) and third step of registering it will be gravy.

www.denatran.gov.br

Let me know if we can assist in the great state of Amapa!
