I want to find out how many classic cars of all kinds are left?

So figure all 1980 cars and older that are still around being used, possibly still being insured, any and all makes left in the US
Would you start with production numbers and figure 10% are left?

that might be close, but there’s no way to really tell., much more for some and less for others. A lot of the makes run a registry for their favorites…

That would be one way of estimating, yes. But what is a classic? Just being old? I’d say to be classic, there needs to be some interest in having it for collector value.

    You might ask these guys.

Added: here is their definition of a classic.

WHAT IS A CCCA CLASSIC CAR?

A CCCA Classic is a "fine" or "distinctive" automobile, either American or foreign built, produced between 1925 and 1948. They are also sometimes called "Full Classics," or just plain "Classics" (with a capital "C"). Generally, a Classic was high-priced when new and was built in limited quantities. Other factors, including engine displacement, custom coachwork and luxury accessories, such as power brakes, power clutch, and "one-shot" or automatic lubrication systems, help determine whether a car is considered to be a Classic.

. My dad owned a 1971 Ford Pinto before it blew up. Is that a ‘Classic’? Or my brother’s Gremlin [plymouth?], 1972?
My uncle had this 1959 Rambler station wagon. …with the fake wood sides. Definitely Classic!
