Look aroudn and you will find services for everything. I have heard of laundry services, house cleaning services, dog walking services, courier services, catering services, dating services, even financial services. Just the other day I cam across a type of service I have not realized – secure document shredding. The concept makes sense now that I think about it. When I first heard about this, I have to admit, I only thought of this as a service that individuals would use. My first emotion was shock at the fact that there really was someone out there too lazy to stick their junk mail and private papers in a shredder beside their desk. Then I realized that this is really for a corporation or business with a lot of sensitive information that needs to be destroyed.
One such company is a pharmaceutical company that I visited. As I wandered around I noticed these bins that were all over the building. The employees would drop in various papers throughout the day. The bottom of the cabinet is locked with a key that only the shredding company has the key to. This company would show up once a week or every couple days. They would remove the bags of papers from the bins and put in an empty bag. These bags are securely delivered to a different location and then destroyed.
I suppose the theory behind the paper shredding services is a logical one. But the one thing I can’t consider is whether destroying these documents on site could not be just as secure. Of course, when I think about that pharmaceutical company I just have to hope that they are just as secure with their drugs.
